I'm so sorry about the birds. I know that is a bummer... especially the ones from when you were a kid. :-(
My favorite memory of my dad was when he'd play board games with us. The library had bookshelves from floor to ceiling, and a large stone fireplace that was warm and reminded me of happy times. All our games were stacked neatly in a closet in the library. We pulled them out and sat Indian-style on the floor near the fireplace. Dad liked to play Monopoly best, but he'd play Life or Connect-Four, or any card game with the three of us girls. I remember his cool blue eyes sparkling and his shoulders shrugging up to his ears, as he laughed and taunted us about our slight chance at beating him.

When I was a young buck, I tried to "save" my share of baby birds. One time, I brought in a whole nest of them that had fallen out of a tree, put them in a shoe box, and then let them sleep ontop of the heater... next morning they were Kentucky Fried Chicken! I was always such a bright child.

I hope you had a blast on your cruise, Colleen! Even if you did have to come back to work! That is interesting about the weird Coke they gave you on the ship. Was it a foreign cruise boat?

Well, that's an interesting combination. Sounds kind of gross to me, but it makes sense to have the chocolate in it when it's "dirty."

As for memories of my dad--too many to mention. I was trying to pin it down. Hey, Whitney, he was a singer when he was young, performed a lot. I didn't know him then!?!? He used to sing to the radio all the time--my favorite songs he sang were "Yellow Bird" and "Puff the Magic Dragon." Oh--and not long ago, my son had some movie on and it was playing the song, "Roses are red my love, violets are blue . . ." I about fell off my chair. I haven't heard that song in years. I miss him every day. He was the strongest man I've ever known.
