The Bow-Legged Cowgirl Rides Again…

I resuscitated Rumpita the Bicycle from her winter hibernation phase today.  She was all cranky and annoyed that she’d have to lug my big butt around again, but then I reminded her that there were about 40 less pounds of me to lug and fed her some tire air and she finally relented.  Ironic that I’d get out Rumpita on National Walking Day, which just so happened to be today (aka yesterday for everyone who is reading this).  What can I say?  I’m a rebel.  Tell me it’s cupcake day and I’ll probably go and eat a pie.   Side note… oh my laws y’all… they had this pie show on the Cooking Channel the other night and I about ate my TV!  No joking around!!!!

You know that movie where the cowgirl is riding a horse, the wind gracefully whipping her hair whilst she romps through the country side like a pro?  Picture that and then picture the EXACT opposite… that there would be me.  Right now I feel like I done been drug behind a beer truck testing it’s shocks in a speed bump field… and it’s only been a few hours since I got back from my ride.  I don’t think I better get out of bed tomorrow.  Just the thought of it hurts.  Nothing like getting back on the bicycle seat from Hades after an extended absence.

Also, I’m pretty sure we had the leftover Texan tornado-like winds coming from the North and East.  Riding either of those directions was like I was slugging through a whole college football team in a mosh pit.  But then, when I’d go South or West, even if it was uphill, it was like a day at the spa.  Against the wind is not my favorite… but then it reminded me that like all things in life, sometimes you gotta brave the wind to be able to coast down the hill on the other side.  I ain’t mad about that… a little annoyed maybe, but not mad!  I can now honestly tell my roommates in the nursing home in 50 years about how I rode uphill both ways with no feet, no arms, PMS on a broken down bike through a herd of beefalos… and I’d totally be telling the truth!

Question of the Day:  What do you look forward to doing most outside in the Spring?

  1. Walking on the greenway. Its lined with beautiful trees and a fast moving, bubbling creek (it’s called a river, but looks like a wide creek). It’s so beautiful!

  2. Avster

Digging in dirt and getting dirt under my finger and toenails. mmm…

Good for you for getting out and riding! I am looking forward to much the same. I have to start getting some serious time under my belt when it comes to bike riding. I am participating in the duathalon again this fall! 🙂

Walk. I still haven’t braved a bike. There are enough of them here that I could pick one and go. I feel so off balance on a bike anymore. I guess I was off balance thinner, too, as I had many falls–but I fall all the time anyway. I do so hate that bike seat pain when I first start riding again. Are you going to ride again today? It seems the only way to get rid of the bike seat pain.

    • I’m totally going to get on it again soon. I remember last summer it took me a good couple of weeks to get used to it. Stupid bike seats! You should try one of those big trike-like bikes I’ve seen people riding around.

I love being able to bask in the sunshine that has been missing for so long. I like working in the yard (most of the time) and a good long walk up Green Canyon.

  6. You go girl! I am looking forward to SUNSHINE and feeling warm, walks in the evening, and gardening.
