Week 4…

I’m feeling non-creative this morning. Like so non-creative that I just titled this blog post “week 4” like I’m writing this from the depths of some rain forest whilst competing on the newest season of Survivor… they wish! I can picture me now… insisting I save my drinking water to shower and wash my hands with and dying of thirst by day 2. That would probably be more preferrable than having to eat the flesh of a rotting snake carcass… so there you have it… my strategy if I ever get cast on Survivor… die by day 2!

Now that we have those pleasantries out of the way… week 3 last week was much better than week 2. I exercised 5 days… which is a feat for me in the winter. My exercise of choice is outdoor woggercizing and it’s impossible right now unless I suddenly grow some cajones for cold weather and icy conditions. Ain’t happening… the emergency rooms thank me! So, instead I pulled out my country heat dance DVDs that I bought back when I was employed and never did. I somehow know that I can kiss my scholarship to Dancing With The Stars University goodbye, but them’s are the ropes y’all! The cat is a great judge and critiquer… she meows loudly every time I step on her tail. The nerve!

My goal for last week was to structure my weekend eating better. I improved over last weekend for sure, but I can still definitely use some more tightening up there. One step at a time. I’m also vowing not to weigh regularly for the first little while. Weighing too much and being disappointed was my hang up the last several times I’ve attempted to reboot my health, so I’m giving it a few weeks and continuing on the path of “ignorance is bliss”!

I hope y’all are doing okay and if you’ve dropped the goal, aim for a living room dance session one time this next week! Show me up for certain!

LINDSAY’S UPDATE:

Hi Whitney’s blog readers and our accountability readers! This week proved to be the first week that I really felt a struggle. I have been on a role and haven’t felt deprived or frustrated. I have just been plugging along happy with my results. Last week I lost 2 pounds. This week I only lost one pound. So a total of 7 pounds down in 3 weeks!!! I SHOULD BE HAPPY ABOUT THAT! That was my goal in the first place, one pound a week. Well, there were a few days where I didn’t PLAN! We were away from home longer than I planned and meals were missed and by the time I came home I was FAMISHED and I made not so great choices. It shows in the weight loss with only a pound. I have found safety in having my meals every 2.5-3 hours and I NEVER get starving to the point I make not so great choices! So this weekend was harder than others.

That being said, I have enjoyed a few meals and thought I would share them with you for this weeks Blog:

Breakfast: Whole egg, 2 egg whites with mushrooms and peppers. I also have a english muffin with 1 TBSP of peanut butter. I have also experimented with some
GREAT protein pancakes that I love! I use Walden Farms ZERO Calorie syrup! It’s great!

SNACK: I always have a spinach shake with 3 strawberries, a handful of blueberries, flaxseed, ice, water, 1 cutie orange, about 2 cups of spinach and a Strawberry crystal light energy. I look forward to this it is very sweet and YUMMY

LUNCH: Usually turkey wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla with a side of guacamole and sprouts and cucumbers inside of it. Sometimes I add a light Babybel cheese.

SNACK: Questbar or Premier protein shake. Sometimes I miss this snack depending on the calories for that upcoming evenings dinner.

DINNER: I have had lots of great ones. Last night was a super yummy chicken, potato, carrot curry with lite coconut milk. Saturday night I made Jalapeño chicken
sausage over a bed of zucchini noodles with reduced fat cheese it was very satisfying. I try and use less carbs for dinner and use a vegetable instead.

These are some common things I have each week and I am enjoying them. Each week I have a cheat meal with a dessert because I don’t have dessert during the week. What are your go to meals that you look forward to and don’t feel deprived???

Thanks for reading! We love to hear your comments and suggestions so don’t be shy!

Fairy-Spittled Spinach Salad…

I will tell y’all up front right this minute, I have the taste buds of a 10 year old. I inched up from 5-year-old taste buds after I turned 30, so I guess progress? Maybe by the time I’m 50, it’ll be 15. I just have problems eating some foods… the texture, the taste, the way it feels like a squid vomited inside my mouth hole… I just can’t with some foods… and they’re usually all of the really healthy variety types of food. I can’t ever remember being like… nope, I hate the texture of Twinkie dough and that Snickers bar is hell on Earth.

This past Friday we jaunted up to visit Lindsay and BoBo, and because we’re all on this healthy living kick, we decided to pick a lunch spot that was known for its healthy food. You know the type, organic fairies water the lettuce with pots of rainbow water whilst holding hands and recycling their spittle. It’s all too much for Whitney to take in. I won’t post the name of the joint here so as to not offend anyone who may come across this blog in the future and be all like, oh, well she sucks… stupid 5-year-old taste bud chick!

So, we get there and the menu is like a walking organic garden… there is nothing on there with french before it and nothing with fries after it. They are also probably the only joint in Utah who does not carry fry sauce! THE NERVE!!!!!!!! Lindsay had the audacity to ask for a diet Coke after which the chick behind the counter about had a stroke! No, we do not have Coke, but we do have a grand variety of organic fairy spittle flavored by the roots of a rutabega. My mother ordered a cauliflower sandwich… a CAULIFLOWER SANDWICH! I ordered some sandwich with carrot aioli on it… and I’ll just tell you that carrot aioli is added to the list of foods my taste buds do not enjoy. It was a trial to eat 2 bites. You don’t get to weigh as much as I do by eating carrot aioli on the regular! Instead they dropped me off at Subway in the ghetto neighborhood where Lindsay gave money to a drug dealer on accident, and I ordered the Subway kind of “healthy” food instead.

My week 2 update started out stellarly. I did well during the actual week when I had a menu all planned out, but then the weekend came and I had no menu and I did not do as well, so my goal for week 3… make a weekend menu or at least make a breakfast and lunch menu and then see how many calories remain for my dinners, Saturdays are usually go out to eat nights and Sundays are usually family dinner nights. I always go back to that saying, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!” I really truly know that is the truth for me.

Moving on to week 3… I hope y’all had some successes in week 2 and if not are ready to start week 3 with a new resolve. Please share what was good and not so good about your weeks! We’d love to hear them!

LINDSAY’S UPDATE:

Hello Again Whit’s readers! How are you guys enjoying your new year? What are your successes? What are you looking forward to? What goals have you been working on and what difference have you noticed in your life by sticking to them?

I weighed in last Monday and in 1 week of my dieting I lost 4 pounds. I was TOTALLY SURPRISED! That has never happened to me! EVER! But I can’t say I didn’t work for it. I was super diligent and determined to make this weight one off! I realize not to expect that every week. The second week which was last week I was on point with me eating again! This makes the most difference. I still have 1 cheat meal a week and usually save it for the weekend when it seems we eat out more.

I am feeling full each day, I don’t feel hungry which is why I choose to eat higher protein. One thing Whit and I have both talked about is being prepared. Each week I plan the meals I will be having and I do not leave it to chance, if I do I will end up eating whatever is convenient and that is not the best choice! Having my daily spiritual time MAKES ALL the difference in the world. I am grateful for you guys being a source of accountability! Thank you for going on this journey with us and let us know where you guys are at!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Lindsay would also like to share this video of her weighing in one week last year and cussing out her scale… 😛

Laws Almighty, It’s Accountability Day…

Hey y’all… we’re back. There were a few people who signed up to join us in our new year of healthier living. I know how things go with resolutions. You are talking to the queen of broken resolutions and usually it’s by January 3rd. Record breaking year one time was January 6th… I was pretty proud of myself that year. Went out and celebrated eating healthily by eating 17 plates of scones at Chuck-Up-Arama… Great Uncle Burl was super proud. Another time I celebrated exercising 6 days a week by taking a nap on the 2nd day instead. Naps totally are more fun than sweating… ask anyone!

Anywho… back to the task at hand. This year I told myself I was going to ease gradually into health. It’s not realistic for me to say things like… gonna exercise 8 days a week for 2 hours a day, eat green leafy food except on the 12th day when I add in a non-leafy yet still green food, and whilst watching TV I will be squatting. NOT HAPPENING! When I had my massive success before it was because I eased into things gradual like. So, each week I’m going to tack on a few new tasks to my healthier living lifestyle… smaller tasks so as to not overwhelm and make me drop everything and revert back to the dump/sewer living Whitney of yore (I use yore a lot more in the weeks after Christmas… I promise it will peter out come February!)

This week’s tasks were as follows:

1. Exercise at least 3 days a week for at least 15 minutes each time.
2. Make better snack choices, especially late night snacking.

I accomplished both things last week. I can tell you I haven’t exercised regularly for months (by regularly I mean at least 3 days a week), and it showed in my out of shapeness whilst exercising this week. We have like 3 feet of snow on the ground (no exaggeration, I wish it were) and we had temperatures as low as 30 below zero this week, so my walking outside days are over at least for now. Instead, I threw in some exercise DVDs and pretended I was coordinated enough to follow the moves (Spoiler Alert: I’m not, but it’s the thought that counts, and that’s also why I do that kind of thing in the dark basement with no one around and all of the blinds closed!)

I always make a menu, even when I wasn’t making such great choices, so I continued to do that, but my biggest eating trouble lately has been late night snacking. It’s been a challenge these last several months full of stress and uncertainty, so this past week I planned out a healthy snack for late night, moro oranges aka blood oranges. I am proud to say I stuck with that for the most part.

Onto this week… my new task this week is to continue the above 2 items and then to focus on my menu and sticking with that in the day rather than snacking randomly and bagging the healthier food I had planned on. Y’all, we totally have this in the bag. It’s January 9th, Uncle Burl is a bit upset, but that leaves more scones at the Chuck-Up-Arama for him, so… win-win!

LINDSAY’S UPDATE:

Hi Whitney’s readers! Welcome back. We are doing our weekly update WEEK #1 for you guys! I am happy to report my week went well here is a recap:

I did awesome on my eating. I can’t believe the difference that it makes in my overall mental facilities. My mind is more clear, I have more energy, I am more optimistic, I am more confident and overall I feel good that I have a plan and a purpose. If that’s not enough motivation to keep me going them hopefully checking the scale for weight loss will be! I have not yet weighed in. I will weigh in Monday morning. I don’t expect a HUGE weight difference …… as a former trainer once told me that it may take 2-3 weeks for your body to change and make a noticeable difference. Of course, it wasn’t all roses. It was hard! I threw away a bunch of tempting treats that tempted me. We have a 20 year old and a 16 year old in the house as well as a 1 year old and I have to be realistic and they will eat treats/snacks so I just put those in a upper cupboard that I will have to utilize a chair to even reach. Plus they are treats that don’t really tempt me.

Lindsay’s breakfast one day…

Lindsay’s Lunch one day…

Lindsay’s Dinner one day…

My workouts were ok. I worked out 6 days last week. Most days were only about 30 minutes. I was going to also do cardio in addition but I didn’t get both done most days because I was quite sore so I am getting my body adjusted slowly to the new change. The workouts are a bit easier than my past workouts so I will continue doing the P90X3 and see how it goes I want to give it a full 3 weeks before I switch back to what I used to be doing.

Everyday is a choice to either improve myself or fall backward. I am going for it and making good choices. I feel that the one thing that is giving me the discipline is prayer and regular scripture study. At 11 a.m. everyday I am studying the scriptures and saying a prayer. IT IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Whatever your beliefs are, GOD does care about you and your goals and he will give you strength to accomplish your goals!

I look forward to hearing your successes and ideas so please share!

*************************

Whitney’s final note:

Okay, it’s y’alls turn! What were your successes last week? What could you improve on this week? How awesome are you on a daily basis (only “really awesome” counts as an answer, okay!?)

Baby BoBo and hims rosy cheeks is here to cheer you on!!

And so is Kitty LucyFur whose new seat now that it’s 30 below zero is in front of the space heater. Quit hogging the heat, LucyFur!

New Year… New You?

New Year’s resolutions last about as long as a bag of Dove chocolate in this here Whitney sphere… translation… 25 seconds.  I prefer to have goals… what’s the difference between a goal and a resolution?  In my mind a resolution is temporary… a goal is going to be around for a while.  You can read those definitions in the Whitster’s Dictionary, closely related to Webster’s, but without any accurate information.

My first goal of 2014 was to purchase a new work computer before my old one broke down.  I see it couldn’t wait until day 6 of the New Year before breaking down because I tried to login to work tonight and the computer is saying it is unable to launch Windows because some file is corrupt…. blah, blah, blobbity blobbity blob.  It couldn’t wait a few weeks into the New Year to allow me to achieve my goal?  Lawsy… and of course I have the work pager starting tomorrow for a week!  Deep breaths, Whitster’s Dictionary… deep breaths.

Another goal is to quit being a wussy dip-ball and exercise regularly again.  I’ve been over here lamenting about how I can’t go outside to woggercize any more when I should really just shut my trap and do something else.  DEAL with it!  I plan to try to walk at the Field House up at USU a couple of times a week… before/after classes I take.  The other days will need to be the recumbant bike or some exercise DVD.  Deal?  Good!

In other news… school starts tomorrow… and because I didn’t think 2 classes on top of working full time was enough, I figured I’d add another class, making it 3 classes or 9 credits.  I’ll just play this tiny violin over here in the corner so the rest of you who have REAL actual busy lives can’t hear it!  What about the factory workers in China!  Laws!  My classes this semester include a required-for-an-English-major pre-1900 World Literary History class, a required-for-a-technical-writing-major Professional Writing course, and a Criminology course.  Criminology because I’m minoring in Criminal Justice… but seriously… who needs classes when I’ve seen every Dateline NBC and 48 Hours:  Mystery since 1998!  EDGE-EE-CASHION!  I basically know the husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend did it before they’ve even introduced the husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend!  That’s some skill right there!

My goal for my classes will be to not die in the parking lot/sidewalks trying to walk to the classes on the ice.  Fingers and toes crossed, except not my toes because that would guarantee death by ice.

PS – Stay warm all you folks up North.  I hear you have some wicked wind chill numbers coming today/tomorrow!

PPS – Remember how a few weeks back I lamented the passing of George Jefferson, the feral cat because I hadn’t seen him for a week?  Turns out about a week after I posted he’d died, he came back to life in a special after-school movie of the week.  I don’t know where that cat went, but he’s back under the deck swiping at my foot every time I walk up the steps.  Welcome back, George… now… be nice!

This is me pretending I’d be graceful on ice skates… in reality… you ever seen a buffalo on an iced-over lake?  Me neither, but I can picture I look just like that!
